Does cash just seem to slip through your fingers? Tired of eating nothing but noodles for three days before that next paycheck? For some, budgeting money seems natural. For most of us, it is about as much fun as a paper cut. While it may not be enjoyable, budgeting money is one of lifeâ??s skills that once mastered, will reap rewards.

Income versus Expenses

When the subject of income comes up, most people know down to the penny how much they make in an hour, a month, or a year. Even those who work on tips will tell you within a few dollars, what an average night brings in. But somehow, when it comes to where that money goes, things get fuzzy. Expenses are slippery. The only way to get a grip on budgeting money is to record and examine expenses. Dull? Yes. Do it anyway. Analyze three months of expenses minimum. One year is better.

Predictable Patterns

People are creatures of habit. That might mean a weekly movie, football night at the sports bar or a haircut every other Wednesday. Learn where your patterns fall. Add up what they cost. Budgeting money starts to boil down to comparing income against needs and making conscious decisions. Once you begin to understand your personal patterns, changes can be made.

Making Mistakes

Itâ??s inevitable. If you are human, at some point a financial error will be made. Part of budgeting money is recognizing that soon or later, you will goof up. It can happen on either the income side of the equation or on the expenses side. It matters not. What does matter is whether you prepare for a slipup by having a small amount of cash set aside. Raid this fund for a midnight pizza run or that really cool new game and it wonâ??t work. Budgeting money also means choosing to behave responsibly.

Tips and Tricks

Just like taxes that come out of a paycheck, money that you donâ??t see canâ??t be spent. Use direct deposit to make contributions to savings or retirement funds. Donâ??t carry large amounts of cash. Itâ??s more difficult to accurately track expenses and spending patterns unless thereâ??s a paper trail. Set aside time once a week to review whether youâ??re on track to pay every bill on time for the month. If not, make adjustments. Budgeting money is about not getting painted into a corner.

Payoffs

Ever wonder who qualifies for the best loan rates on things like cars, homes and credit cards? Itâ??s the people with good credit. Those who have mastered the art of budgeting money are never late paying bills, live within their means, and prove they can be trusted to use credit wisely. Being wealthy is not required. Being smart with budgeting money is.

Itâ??s never too late to become an expert at budgeting money. All it takes is the discipline to carefully monitor expenses compared to income, make informed choices and have a little savings for the normal mistakes we all make. With practice, budgeting money is like brushing your teeth. Just a good habit.

Breaking and creating habits is not an easy task. Of course we all know this because we’ve entered many a New Year with high hopes of starting a fitness routine, quitting smoking, not drinking, etc only to succumb to our old ways within a few weeks.

When it comes to financial health and well-being, I strongly encourage taking the time to properly implement healthy habits. Whether it’s sitting down once a month to reconcile your current account, planning for retirement or saving up for a deposit on a flat or to buy your first car, you should set a goal beforehand so you can appreciate your efforts and success when you cross the finish line.

To create a new habit, it’s best to pick one thing to focus on instead of trying to create a whole new you in a brief window of time. Think of how long it took to create your current habits, years, right?! So let’s just take a baby step with one new habit for now.

If you’re a newbie to the world of personal finance, welcome. Taking control of your own financial health and well-being is very empowering and it’s a good habit that will serve you for years to come. With the novices in mind, let’s start with a good basic habit of creating a budget. Since creating a budget is only a one-off event, it doesn’t have to become habit forming, however maintaining and updating your budget is another story.

I’ve created a number of budgets in my limited years as a financially independent adult. On numerous occasions I’ve torn a page from a pad of paper and sat down on the spot and made two columns with my income and expenses. I’ve also searched online for a free budgeting spreadsheet and saved it to my computer, and most recently I’ve begun using <a href="http://www.wonga.com/budget-calculator/"rel="nofollow" onclick="javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview('/outgoing/article_exit_link');" target="_blank" title="Wonga budget tool">Wonga’s free budget calculator on their website. However you decide to make your budget, sit down within the next seven days and create your budget.

Action it: Create a budget within the next seven days!

What I like about the Wonga budget calculator is that it saves my data for future use; it breaks down expenses into different segments; and its user-friendly interface makes a sometimes unpleasant task more cheerful. I also really like the advice section at the end because it’s like my own personal cheerleader:

“Congratulations: your income is more than your regular outgoings, meaning you potentially have surplus cash which can be saved, invested, used to repay any existing credit or just enjoyed! Well done for managing to live within your means.”

Doesn’t that make you feel good? It works for me!

You can also clear all entries and start again, save it and/or print off a copy of your budget. If you think you’ve missed an expense or you just want to go back and double-check your work, you can simply click on the “step 1…2…3” circles at the top to go back to the correct page and make changes.

Become a registered user of the Wonga budget calculator today and create a good financial habit.

What You Should Know about Exhibit and Trade Show Budgeting

How to differentiate between normal marketing expenses and <a href="http://www.classicexhibits.com/design-search/trade-show-tips/exhibit-marketing-43/"rel="nofollow" onclick="javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview('/outgoing/article_exit_link');" target="_self" title="The Keys to Exhibit Marketing ">exhibit marketing expenses The <a href="http://www.classicexhibits.com/"rel="nofollow" onclick="javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview('/outgoing/article_exit_link');" target="_self" title="Choose from Over 1500 Exhibit Designs">exhibit is the largest initial expense, but your ongoing exhibit marketing will easily surpass that initial cost Create a budget and maintain an accurate Return on Investment (ROI) on your exhibit marketing Include the Exhibit Costs, Onsite Expenses, and <a href="http://www.classicexhibits.com/design-search/trade-show-tips/onsite-trade-show-services-47/"rel="nofollow" onclick="javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview('/outgoing/article_exit_link');" target="_self" title="A Guide to Onsite Tradeshow Services">Show Services when developing your budget

An Accurate Exhibit Budget

Companies should define a workable exhibit marketing budget, one that includes all related costs. However, the line between marketing expenses and exhibit marketing expenses can be somewhat fuzzy. You will want to create a well-defined budget that separates them.

The exhibit is typically the largest initial expense. However, over time, the cost of using the exhibit will easily surpass the initial cost of the exhibit, often significantly. When constructing a budget, evaluate your ability to maintain the expense year after year. Weigh the repercussions of scaling back. In some industries, scaling back can be more damaging than never exhibiting in the first place.

Creating an Exhibit Budget

Creating a budget allows you to figure an accurate ROI. You should account for pre- and post-show marketing, travel costs, lodging, and entertainment. You’ll need to factor in freight, drayage, show labor, carpeting, and electricity expenses. These can be significant expenses. Most I&D companies will estimate the labor time from a faxed set-up drawing. Most freight companies can estimate the shipping charges based on dimensions and weight provided by the exhibit seller. You should also factor in minor repairs due to freight damage or repeated set-up. Generally, common sense will determine if the exhibit packing is sufficiently for repetitive use, the vibration of the road, and the pounding of the forklift during freight handling.

Don’t forget to factor in the usable life of your exhibit and assign a cost to each show. On average, an exhibit is effective for three years. Any longer and the exhibit may be dated or worn. Any earlier and the marketing value is not realized.

Here is an example to consider: a buyer who participates in six shows per year is considering two 20 x 20 island designs that cost the same. The first exhibit might weight 50% less than the second, saving freight and drayage costs; however, the second might setup in half the time of the first, saving labor costs. Additionally, the second might be crated better, yielding a 20% longer life or at least a higher resale value. You’ll want to consider all these expenses before making a final decision. Your exhibit consultant can assist you with calculating your estimated expenses for each show.

Calculating Your Budget

Consider the following when developing your budget for Exhibit Costs, Onsite Expenses, and Show Services. Onsite Expenses and Show Services can be calculated using the forms provide by the show management organizer. Those rates vary depending on the show. This list does not include travel, meals, lodging, or promotional incentive expenses, nor does it include normal payroll expenses.

Exhibit Costs

Exhibit Price Total Number of Uses Weight/Packaging

Onsite Expenses

Booth Space Lead Machine Rental Furniture and Plants A/V Equipment Flooring

Show Services

Drayage (moving your exhibit from the dock to your booth space) Electricity/Electrician Internet/Telephone Decorator Labor for I&D (installation and dismantling) Booth Cleaning Booth Security

Creating a well-defined budget and comparing it against actual expenses is the best method to track and manage your total investment in a particular show. If you sell products in a retail show, then the revenue is easy to tally up and compare to the expenses for the ROI. If your show is one where prospecting, branding, and market positioning are the norm, then the ROI is more difficult to measure. Other benefits are difficult to measure but quite valuable just the same. These intangible benefits may be direct or indirect, and exhibit marketers look for subtle hints of these returns and weigh them against the opportunity cost of not exhibiting.

It seems that having a project come in On-Budget is the and holy-grail of project management, especially when it comes to CRM projects. With their 70% failure rate, CRM projects represent a significant risk to a small business’ financial health and warrants more “measure twice, cut once” consideration before beginning.

Coming in On-Budget does not mean you managed to squeeze your project into whatever arbitrary budget you came up with when you first started. It also doesn’t mean that you
started with an overly generous budget.

It does mean that you develop a budget that takes into account an analysis of 4 critical areas:

1. PAYOFF. You need to know exactly how your CRM system is going to generate ROI. This will help you focus your project on the right areas. By knowing how you expect payoff to be achieved, you can plan to achieve it.

2 RISK. You need to figure out where the risk is in your project because “risk=expense”. By figuring out what can go wrong, you can take measures to minimize and contain that risk.

3. SERVICES. Be sure to fully account for the variety of services that will be required. A few often overlooked areas that can increase your services bill significantly include: meetings, testing time, debugging time and “while you’re here…” time.

4. TECHNOLOGY. Choosing the wrong technology is can be a huge waste of money. From the worst case scenario of a totally failed project to having to spend extra money to make the wrong software do things it wasn’t intended to do.

What makes putting together a realistic budget so difficult for small businesses is that it’s not what they do and they don’t have the experience of having done several before. It’s not what they do. So, they rely on the Sellers of CRM who have their own vested interest in not scaring off their customers with numbers that are perceived to be too expensive.

By putting together a realistic budget, you may very well find that the project is going to cost much more than you were intitally prepared to spend. It’s best to find this out now and before you “sign on any dotted lines”.

If you do find out the project is going to cost more, here are a few ideas of what to do:

- WAIT & SAVE. Perhaps you need to wait 6 months until you have a bigger budget. Use this time to get prepared for the project: learn more about the software choices, make sure you’re business processes are as fine tuned as they can be, and focus on how CRM software will generate ROI.

- GO AHEAD. It may be more money than you were expecting, but may still be within your budget. If you’re clear on how the CRM system is going to generate ROI and you’re otherwise ready, go for it!

- SCALE DOWN. If you have a very clear idea of how the CRM software is going to achieve ROI and you can’t afford the full project, focus in a smaller area to begin with that will have a payback. Use this payback to help fund future projects. It’s always a good idea to start with smaller, high-payoff projects first.

- FIND MORE ROI. If you have a really clear and compelling business case for how a CRM system is going to improve your bottom-line, it’s much easier to find the necessary funds to implement it.

- DOUBLE CHECK. Make sure you’re choosing the right technology. Cheap software can often be expensive to implement. Double check to make sure you’re basing your budget on the right CRM software. You may find that a software that costs more in licensing, ends up being an overall more affordable solution.

Coming in On-Budget means you started with a realistic budget. The Insider’s CRM Success System goes into great detail on how to develop a realistic budget and provides the control forms and worksheets you’ll need.

The task of preparing your own budget is a liberating experience. You can finally see the true state of your personal finances. The benefits listed below may help encourage you in making your decision to start today. Ready to begin? Let’s go.

Benefit #1. The budget focuses your thinking.

Without a budget you are not able to clearly see the extent of your spending compared to your income. This is the most important role of your budget. It will show you whether you are living within your means or whether you are living on borrowed funds. It is also the tool that can show you where all your money is being spent. This allows you to answer important questions, such as “Am I wasting money on things I don’t really need?”, “Is my credit card debt to blame for my predicament?” and “How much better off would I be if I could manage to be debt free?”.

Benefit #2. Helps you save money and set goals.

Once you have correctly prepared your budget, it will show you how much you need to save from your income to meet your expenses and set aside some funds for emergencies. It allows you to set goals, both for the amount and the timing. For example, you may set a goal of paying $3,000 (the amount) off your credit cards, within 1 year (the timing). Once you make a commitment to yourself to make this work the budget becomes a tool that will help you stay on track.

Benefit #3. Keeps your goals in your mind.

It is easy to slip back into your old spending ways if you do not commit to making the budget work. The budget will help you keep the goals you set in your mind when you are tempted to give in. When you are out, it can help you say no to frivolous expenditure, say no to that daily coffee-shop coffee, think twice before you hand over your hard-earned money on things you don’t really need and wait until that item you really want goes on sale.

Benefit #4. Helps you live within your means.

Every time you make a spending decision, it has a positive or negative impact on your financial position. The budget can show you clearly how your spending habits affect your finances in advance. Your budget can help you understand that if you spend money on this item you can’t use the same money to spend on something else. You only have a finite income. If you spend more than you earn you are living on borrowed money and the cost of that money is interest. The interest on borrowed funds is most probably the cause of your financial worries.

Benefit #5. Puts you in control of your finances.

If you’ve prepared your budget correctly, you will see how much you have available to spend, after taking into account your debt repayments and savings requirements for your future needs. This information can take away the guilt you may have felt when purchasing some item(s) you knew you couldn’t really afford. With a budget you know what you can afford and what is beyond your means. When you know you can afford an item you really want, the purchasing experience will be much more enjoyable and rewarding.

Benefit #6. – Tracks your progress toward your goals.

Once you prepare you budget it should not put into a drawer and forgotten. It should be a live document that you refer to weekly, or at least monthly. This is your guide to financial freedom. You need to check your progress towards your goals, thus giving you the incentive to keep going and achieve your financial objectives.

A special administrative region of China, Hong Kong has been long regarded as the gateway to the nation. Hong Kong is a sprawling cityscape providing a feast of attractions to visitors touring the city in the form of a variety of museums, theme parks, and natural attractions, among many others.

However, its magnificent attractions are the not only thing that draw people from across the world here. The city also provides excellent options for business and educational activities. Many travelers including Americans and Europeans can savor the first taste of Asia by landing at the international airport in Chek Lap Kok, Hong Kong.

Traveling to Hong Kong has never been so easier, with a plethora of budget airlines in the scenario. Earlier, air travel was just confined to upper class people including top class executives as well as business magnets. But, with the birth of the budget airlines, anyone could dream of a comfortable air journey. In other words, budget airlines have now become a convenient alternative over shaky buses, inept trains, and traffic-jammed highways.

Budget airlines, otherwise known as no frills airlines, low cost carriers, or low cost airlines, are airlines or flight carriers providing flight services for exceptionally low rates. Sometimes you can travel with a budget airline for more than 50% discount.

The concept of no-frills airlines originally originated during the beginning of 1990s in the US, which later spread to Europe and gradually to Asian destinations. Now the budget airlines are popular throughout the world, and many of the leading as well as reputable airlines in the industry render low cost airline services and that too without sacrificing the quality of the services.

In budget airlines, the pricing of air fares vary depending upon the duration of time between booking and departure. Mostly, the earlier you make bookings for airfare, much cheaper would be the airfare. Likewise, in order to fill the unsold seat in the plane, some airlines would slash the price prior to a few days before its departure.

A specialty of most of the budget airlines is that they cater to almost all types of travelers. For instance, some airlines operate budget flights according to the convenience of the business travelers. There are certain airlines providing incredible deals on air fares for students as well as leisurely travelers. In most cases, budget airline fares are flexible, al though, in some instances, these airlines may charge a nominal fee to make changes in flight reservations.

A number of airlines are in the industry to render you the best in budget travel. With these excellent airlines providing bespoke services. A budget airline provides almost the same superb services that a standard airline offers, such as excellent dining options, superb entertainment facilities, and comfortable as well as soft cabins. Additionally, some of the budget airlines render special services for passengers such as elderly travelers, children traveling alone or not accompanied by their parents, pregnant as well as passengers flying with infants, and passengers who have visual, speech, or hearing imparity.

With the introduction of the internet, it has become quite easy to find a budget airline. Many of the airlines have their own websites with facilities for online ticket booking. This in turn is very convenient. It is not only beneficial for hassle-free bookings but also enable you to know whether they provide any kind of discount or deals for traveling within a stipulated period or during a particular season such as Christmas or New Year.

All you have to do is to just log into their website and inform them regarding the destination you are going to travel and date of departure. All of the rest they will take care. In addition, airfare bookings online is economical, as it enables you to save pennies on issuing tickets. The airlines, in most cases, sent confirmation through a simple document containing flight details as well as booking reference. When you make payments and bookings online, it allows you to easily take a print out of this document as soon as the booking process is completed. In short, with just a click of a mouse you can make bookings for a comfortable air journey.

Launched in Hong Kong on 26 October 2006, <a href="http://www.oasishongkong.com"rel="nofollow" onclick="javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview('/outgoing/article_exit_link');" >Oasis Hong Kong Airlines pioneers a fresh approach to flying. We are now<a href="http://fly.oasishongkong.com/booking/search.aspx"rel="nofollow" onclick="javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview('/outgoing/article_exit_link');" > flying daily between Hong Kong, London and Vancouver

There’s no question, a budget is the best way to gain control over your finances and live a life free of financial stress. Here are the simple steps to achieve this:

Step 1: Collect your financial information together. This will include every credit card statement, bank statement and your receipts. Anything that documents your expenses for the last three months needs to be collected. What are you going to do with this information? You’re going to use it to categorize your expenses. What do you spend on your home? What do you spend on your car? Your food? Your health? Entertainment? You’re not tracking your expenses right now, you’re simply coming up with expense categories and sub-categories for your budget. If it makes it easier, begin by drafting the categories and sub-categories you think your expenses will fall into. As you go through your expenses you can verify your category decisions.

Step 2: Gather your income statements or profit and loss sheets and determine how much money you really have to budget with. You can use either your net or gross income as your number, just be consistent. Also, if you choose to use your gross income, make sure to account for your taxes on your list of expenses.

Step 3: Using the same documents you used to create your budget expense categories and sub-categories, now examine how much you spend each month on each. I highly recommend that you write this number down. It may be an eye-opening exercise, but it will also help you predict how much you will spend in the future. You want your budget to be a realistic reflection of your spending habits, not a financial diet.

Step 4: Find a method of recording your budget. This could be a simple spreadsheet where your columns are a list of your categories, your weekly or monthly available spending amount, how much you actually spend and the difference between the two numbers. Your rows will be the income and expense categories you’ve already established.

Step 5: Create a budget, keeping in mind that you will want a budget category devoted to savings goals too. Once your budget is created, spend a month or two following it. Keep your budget close at hand so you can track your finances closely. Assess your spending on a weekly or monthly basis. Re-evaluate your budget if you need to. Your budget is not set in stone and some of your expenses are variable, meaning you control how much you spend on them. For example, entertainment is variable and your mortgage is fixed.

A budget is nothing more than a spending plan. It isn’t a financial diet. It is a tool to control your money and be knowledgeable and smart about where it goes. It’s your money after all, and isn’t it great to have the upper hand?

Do you have a household budget? Do you balance your checkbook to make sure your expenditures are less or equal to the money you have in your account? Consider the same for your body.

You have a certain number of calories to consume throughout your day. Are you overextended or saving with your calories? If you’re eating too many calories, you’re gaining weight and out of balance with your caloric budget. Many of us don’t consider the cost of the extra calories on our bodies until our clothes start feeling tight. However, if you’re eating appropriately within your calorie budget and exercising, you are in balance in the form of maintaining your weight. If you eat less calories and/or exercise to expend more calories, what happens? You will lose weight. The equation of calories in/calories out is the way to lose weight and maintain your weight long-term.

There are 3,500 calories in a pound. To lose a pound, you need to consume less calories than your body needs as you conduct your daily routine. Like any good budget, your goal is not to spend more than you can afford. For example, you see a treat that looks good, check out the nutritional breakdown. As yourself if it is worth the calorie expenditure from your budget if you eat it? If not, don’t allow it to break your calorie bank account and pass on to a better food choice.

Do you want to increase your calorie burn? You need to exercise. If you add exercise to the equation, you’ll lose weight quicker and more efficient than if you were sedentary. In addition, calories burned through exercise increases your metabolism and the benefits continue even after you stop the exercise activity.

The more muscle you have, the higher your metabolism and the more calories you naturally burn. Aerobic exercise is important. Strength training to increase your overall muscle nass is equally important. Resistance training and weight lifting also add a boost to your metabolism and calorie burn.

If you keep a food and exercise journal, consider it as your health checkbook. Your calorie and exercise budget build your health account better and stronger. Your financial picture can be successful if you monitor your finances closely. Your health will benefit from a successful calorie and exercise budget. Monitor your budget to enjoy maximum weight loss and weight maintenance.

By working with a coach, you can create a comprehensive calorie and exercise budget that is customized just for you, your likes and dislikes.

Just as you are diligent in your personal and family finances, consider the same for your body’s calorie and exercise budget as well. By creating a calorie and exercise budget similar to your financial budget, it will help you think about how much you eat and exercise. A calorie and exercise budget will not only help you to eat less, but will also help you make healthier food choices to promote a balanced budget. The bonus of a good calorie and exercise budget is a balanced, successful, healthy and happy life.
